Boston Globe – Billerica Company Unveils a New Way To Make Batteries
Jun 4, 2025
AM Batteries was recently featured in The Boston Globe for the grand opening of its new Customer Success Center in Billerica, Massachusetts.
The Globe highlighted AM Batteries’ innovative dry-electrode manufacturing technology, which offers significant improvements in efficiency, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness compared to traditional battery production methods. According to AM Batteries CEO Lie Shi, this technology eliminates the typical trade-offs between cost, performance, and sustainability in battery manufacturing.
“All the battery makers realize this should be the future of manufacturing,” Shi told The Boston Globe.
The new facility includes a state-of-the-art dry room and electrode production line, enabling clients to conduct test runs or commission AM Batteries to produce electrodes on their behalf. Approximately half of the center's $5 million cost was funded by a grant from MassTech, reflecting the project's importance to the region’s economic and environmental goals.
"We have to get better at making batteries,” said Lily Fitzgerald, Director of the Center for Advanced Manufacturing at MassTech. “We think there’s a really good value proposition here to keep electrode manufacturing in Massachusetts with such a strong potential for job creation.”
AM Batteries has seen rapid growth, doubling its workforce over the past year and planning further expansion in 2025.
